What is a geogrid from SmartMetalGroup?

The geogrid is a geosynthetic structure that is a three-dimensional structure of strips made of polyester, polyethylene or polypropylene. The polymer or synthetic strips are fastened together, forming a flexible three-dimensional grid with cells arranged in a checkerboard pattern.

The geogrid serves as an excellent reinforcing frame, and its cells are subsequently filled with rock fragments, bulk materials (sand, gravel) or filled with concrete. In order to reduce construction costs, fixing of the filling is practiced.

Due to its structure, flexibility and sustainable to deformation, the geogrid is used successfully where it`’s necessary to counteract erosion, soil failure or removal of excess moisture (drainage).

Advantages of the geogrid:

–Endurance due to the resistance of synthetic and polymeric materials to aggressive environmental influences (groundwater, ultraviolet rays, salts, alkalis) and resistance to rot, which ensures a long service life.

– The material is environmentally clean, doesn’t emit toxic substances and it’s not dangerous for the environment.

– The geogrid doesn’t need maintenance and current repairs.

– It’s convenient to transport and takes minimal storage space because it’s transported and stored assembled.

Installation of a geogrid

Geogrids are installed using an L-shaped fastening, which fixes the structure in an extended position, and it’s filled with various fillers. For drainage and separation of the layers in the geogrids a layer reticulated geotextile.

Usages of geogrid:

In construction – to strengthen slopes, river banks and reservoirs.

In road construction – during the construction of all kinds of roads, parking lots, helicopter pads, strengthening slopes adjacent to the tracks.

In railway construction, the geogrid serves to strengthen on the slopes adjacent to the railway tracks, to reinforce weak soils at the places where the tracks pass and to increase their stability by distributing the load over a larger area, to prevent the formation of gaps under the muddy sections of the railway line. The bracing structure of geogrids is combined with drainage elements and geotextile mesh in muddy and swampy areas.

In infrastructure projects – strengthening and landscaping of slopes, anti-erosion protection, fixing of fertile soil.

Oil and gas industry – the geogrid is used to strength complex sections of pipelines, especially in mountainous areas, in the construction of retaining structures for embankments, compressor sites stations, to create temporary or permanent roads for access to oil and gas production facilities, to strengthen the territory of the fields

Strengthening of drains – due to its flexibility and resistance to deformation, the geosynthetic lattice serves to strengthen the banks of rivers, the walls of water tanks and small hydraulic structures. The filler for each case is selected separately, taking into account the water flow.

In landscape construction – the geogrid is used to create garden paths, sports fields and decorative embankments.

SMART METAL GROUP offers the customers products with guaranteed quality. To ensure the comfort and the calm of our customers, the company adheres to the policy: in case you buy a product and it doesn’t satisfies you, we’ll make it again or return your money.

SMART METAL GROUP
