<b> The global steel market continues to grow. </b> <span style = “font-weight: 400;”> Prices of scrap and rebar blanks have jumped by </span> <b> 15% and increased significantly </b> <span style = “font-weight : 400; “> for the last two weeks. </span>
<span style=”font-weight: 400;”> Ц<a href=”https://smartmetalgroup.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/screenshot-2020-12-04-at-6.15.43-pm.png”><img class=”wp-image-22256 alignleft” src=”https://smartmetalgroup.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/screenshot-2020-12-04-at-6.15.43-pm-300×244.png” alt=”” width=”357″ height=”290″ /></a>Scrap prices in Turkey and Japan have reached their highest levels in two and a half years. Production in Japan and South Korea declined during the year. Japan produced 7.2 million metric tons in October – or 11.7 percent less than in 2019. South Korea produces 5.9 million metric tons – 1.8 percent less than last year. </span> <span style = “font-weight: 400;”> In November, scrap in Turkey and East Asia rose at a higher rate than billets and rebar. Turkey’s crude steel production in the autumn was 3.2 million metric tons – 19.4 percent more than the same month in 2019. At 29.14 million metric tons, Turkey’s production for the first 10 months of 2020 increased by 4.2 percent for the year. </span> <span style = “font-weight: 400;”> India produced 9.1 million metric tons of crude steel in October. This means that it is 0.9 percent more than in October 2019 </span>
<span style=”font-weight: 400;”>Chinese steel companies, many of which are state-owned enterprises, have increased steel production to a projected record of </span> <b> 980 million tonnes (t) in 2020 and 2021 </b> <span style = “font-weight : 400; “> (this is 72 million tons more than in 2019). In the rest of the world, steel production has </span> <b> dropped by more than 100 million tons </b> <span style = “font-weight: 400;”>, with projected production being </span> < b> 745 million tons in 2020 </b> <span style = “font-weight: 400;”>. </span>
<span style=”font-weight: 400;”>Steel demand in developing countries </span> <span style = “font-weight: 400;”> is expected to recover faster in 2021 than in more developed ones through investment in infrastructure. </span> <b> Steel demand </b> <span style = “font-weight: 400;”> in developed economies, excluding China, </span> <b> fell by -12.3% in 2020 </b> <span style = “font-weight: 400;”> and is expected to </span> <b> recover by 10.6% in 2021 </b> <span style = “font-weight: 400;”> It is also expected that the activity on the world steel market will increase and economic activity will be fully restored.
