In addition to the solidity, as we can see, gabions show good aesthetics and eco-friendliness – the thin mesh is virtually invisible, and the end product looks made of natural stone, so gabions fit so perfectly into any landscape.
If a number of requirements are imposed on the metal mesh, then there is usually no question of filling. The gabions are filled with any solid inert material. This can be cobblestone or quarry stone, rounded river stone, crushed stone, and so-called glass stones – as long as they are larger than the openings in the net. Now it is clear why, among other qualities, gabion systems have affordable prices – they are made of economical materials that have an extremely long service life.
The coating of gabion metal nets protects them from harmful atmospheric influences (water, rain, snow, wind, and variable temperatures) causing corrosion. Therefore, gabions do not need serious care and will serve for many years.
